The Francis Frith Collection

In 1855 after selling his wholesale grocery business for £200,000(equiv £15,000,000 today), Francis Frith started to persue his hobby of travel and photography and so began the legacy he has left for the modern day historian and enthusiast.

The francis Frith collection contains over a 350,000 photographs of 7000 cities, towns and villages all around the world, including China, Japan, the USA and Canada. When he died in 1898 Francis Frith had an amazing 2000 outlets, more than Boots and WHSmith have combined today. Frith & CO were also a major lead in developing the holiday postcard as we see it today.

You can buy any of the prints from this amazing collection by visiting them on-line, prints start from as little as £14.99 and you will be shocked at the quality of the original photograph, something that keeps Frith's collection at the top of its league and the never ending list of locations he visited.
